Let‘s talk about Shopping Discount stress

Yesterday the Nespresso capsules arrived. I feel this is just too many coffees but there was a 35% discount if 100 coffee capsules are bought. I‘m not interested in buying more items than what I‘ve planned originally. But I have a partner who is a may I say quite a shopaholic and enjoys discounts. So due to “world peace”, I usually give in. At the Checkout, I realised the discount was not included but since we have spent quite some time in the online shopping, we went ahead and I contacted the Consumer assistant the following day to ask about why was the discount not included. And they offered 3 sleeves of coffees of my choice instead of the discount that I should have gotten. So problem resolved, however, now I have 30 coffee capsules more in the storage and I should finish them within the expiry date.
When it comes to discount, I understand a lot of people want it and it’s a psychological no-brainer for a lot of people. But it comes with a price. And I’m referring to the excessive consumption of the product, let‘s say the products are the ones that could be consumed. And also the storage issues. In the end, you might have more headache than that instant thrill that you’ve gotten yourself a good deal. In the scenario that you really need that product, sure, but what are the chances that u actually need the product at the time when it coincides with the discount period?

In the scenario that you chance upon the discount right at the time when the products that you need are depleted, and that’s about the amount that you would like to buy disregardless of the discount, then it would have been excellent. I‘d like to say the chances of this happening is less than frequent.

Discounts are especially tempting when it comes to impulsive shoppers. And in the end, you will have a lot of things in the house. Well, if you don‘t have to tidy the house and you do have the finance to have properties with lots of storage space or hire professionals to do the organising for you, then this post is not for you. Please read my other posts :) For the rest of us, all these accounts to additional stress that we do not need. So shop rationally to reduce stress.
